Stay connected with friends and family, and relish opportunities to make new friends.

Socializing is an important human need, regardless of which stage of life you are in. Our caregivers and dedicated activities staff are sympathetic to the unique situation of each resident and make active efforts to involve all of our retirement village residents living in our community. A rest home need not be stagnant, we love to get our members up and moving and making connections.

Community Groups

Monte Vista retirement village has strong ties with the local Lake Taupō community groups who regularly visit. Whether it’s a school, musical performer, or cultural group, there’s always an event right around the corner for our rest home residents to enjoy.

Contact with Loved Ones

Your loved ones are just a phone call away. Each of our homes has a dedicated resident phone line for both incoming and outgoing calls. Our caregivers are happy to assist residents to operate the phone.

Internet

Some of our residents and families enjoy regular Skyping and emailing. Residents and families are welcome to set up a PC, laptop, or tablet and their own internet service within a resident’s room. We will assist with this where possible.

Mail

In the age of technology, it’s still nice to send and receive real letters! We are happy to deliver letters to residents, and take resident letters to a post box for mailing. We are also happy to receive newspaper and magazine subscriptions on your behalf, and deliver them to you when they arrive.

Pets

Animals often provide wonderful companionship. Most of our homes have dogs or cats living on the premises, and some even have aviaries. Please check with your local home if it is possible to bring your own pet along with you.

Our Clubs

We facilitate in-house social clubs based on resident interests. Some of our clubs include the Kai Club, which goes for regular outings to try different food, and the Bloke Shed, where men can kick back and just be blokes. Each home has a unique set of clubs, so ask your local Manager about the available options.

Visitation

We encourage families and friends to visit as often as they can. We try to be as accommodating as possible in terms of flexible visiting hours, and we also encourage families to take residents out for meals, or to local amenities. Families and friends are absolutely welcome in our homes, and we love having the extra company.

“I liked the smiles and happy people I saw on my initial visits to Monte Vista Residential Care. I could see by the positive feedback from people who were already staying here and loving it that this was a place that people were happy to live in. Monte Vista has good food, a caring staff and an attractive garden. It is warm and friendly and gives peace of mind to the family who can take a break from worrying about me. I feel safe at night and don’t have to worry about falling, cooking, my health or bills.”

Gene

“I enjoy the fact that independence is encouraged. This means I can come and go as I please. I enjoy the staff, the meals and the extras that they do for us. I was pleased to be asked to be the Māori Advocate for Monte Vista and it’s good to see that the staff are learning about all cultures.”

Thelma

“I was in hospital and was unable to cope at home, so my daughter and I decided I would come to Monte Vista. I wouldn’t go to any other place in Taupō!! I get on so well with all the staff, they are marvellous. We have lots of fun and laughter. I feel so secure here, and warm and happy. I think I have the best room at Monte Vista because of the view of the mountains and lake. My family visit often and they are happy that I feel so settled. I enjoy the entertainment, especially the line dancers and the lady who comes to play the piano accordion. Every Monday the Piano Ladies come and we all do lots of singing. Kath and I always sing the Monte Vista theme song, which is ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary"

“What I like most about Monte Vista Residential Care is the scenery. I have people to talk to so I am not left on my own feeling lonely. I also enjoy the peace and quiet. Monte Vista has a friendly and listening staff and a good standard of care. I recommend living here because of the atmosphere. I liked the positive feedback from all the people who were already staying here and loving it.”
